Administration Fellowship

A candidate for this long-standing and novel training program would be a physician who has completed a 3- or 4-year residency in Emergency Medicine and has shown an interest and potential in leadership and management during their training.

Staten Island University Hospital is excited to be recruiting for our Administrative Fellowship starting July 2025. Our comprehensive two-year fellowship is designed to expose an administrative fellow to all facets of emergency management and administration including but not limited to medical operations, performance improvement, professional corporation and revenue management, budgeting, medical informatics, and patient safety initiatives. The goal of our program is to develop future executive leaders who can shape and improve the dynamic specialty of Emergency Medicine. Fellows have the opportunity to work at both our academic and community hospitals. The centerpiece to this two-year fellowship is the completion of a two-year MBA program at Hofstra University. Interested applicants should send their CV to Ms. Christina Fazio at cfazio@northwell.edu

Highlights:

  • 2-year comprehensive fellowship

  • Master of Business Administration - Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University paid for by the department

  • $140,000 per year salary

  • 20 hours of clinical work as ED Attending required per week

  • Six Sigma training and certification through Northwell Center for Learning and Innovation

  • Emergency Department Directors Academy (EDDA) training through ACEP

  • Work closely with departmental and hospital administration

A successful fellow in our program will gain knowledge and experience in all facets of management and administration, including medical operations, performance improvement, professional corporation, revenue management, ED marketing, employee relations, "people management" skills, medical informatics, emergency preparedness, and planning, scheduling, building professional relationships, customer satisfaction strategies, and patient safety initiatives.

The fellow would be required to utilize their new knowledge and skill set by structuring a faculty-supervised research initiative, such as a Six Sigma project, that would positively impact our department.  Upon completion of the SIUH Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Management and Administration, we anticipate that a physician would be suitable for hire at the level of an Assistant Director of an Emergency Department.
